Did you know...?

Imo state is a great state with lots of sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora, who have made great names for themselves in a wide variety of human endeavors?

Did you also know that...Imo state is in the south-eastern geo-political zone of Nigeria? And that the other zones, with their states include:

North East (states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe)
North West (states: Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, Zamfara)
North Central (states: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau) & FCT not a state
South East (states: Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi)

I bet you will be pleasantly surprised to learn some not-so-often-recognized facts about this great state. Now, did you know that...

	Owerri, Imo State Capital was awarded the Cleanest City in Nigeria by the Federal Ministry of Housing & Environment.
	The former world boxing middle weight champion, Dick Tiger is from Amaigbo in Nwangele L.G.A of Imo State. He was one of the great fighters to come out of the African continent.
	Onyeka Onwenu, Nigeria’s Lady of Songs, Award winning best pop artiste performing musicians association of Nigeria and Actress is from Arondizuogu in Imo state.
	Chioma Ajunwa, the first Nigerian to win an Olympic gold medal as well as the first African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event is from Ahiara mbaise in Imo state.
	Cynthia Okpara, the winner of the MTV & MTN VJ Search programme of the year 2008 and the first Nigerian TV presenter for MTV base is from Ideato in Imo State.
	President Umaru Musa Yar’adua first official visit on assumption of office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was Imo State on the 21st of January 2008.
