In a statement titled “NIGERIANS, ARISE NOW TO RESIST THE WICKED HIKE IN FUEL PRICES”, JAF said government action had reinforced the group's resolve to begin a mass action and protest nationwide from tomorrow against the policy and urged Nigerians to turn up en-mass for the protest starting from Lagos.
The statement by Dr. Dipo Fashina and Comrade Abiodun Aremu, JAF’s Chairman and Secretary, respectively advised Nigerians not to buy petrol above N65 per litter and shut any filling station that sells above N65.
According to the statement “The Joint Action Front (JAF) – the pro-labour civil society partner in the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) – has just learnt from media report that the Federal Government (FG) through its agency – the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has formally removed the so-called subsidy in PMS and hiked prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol from N65 to N141.
According to the statement signed the agency Executive Secretary – Reginald Stanley, it stated that “Following extensive consultation with stakeholders across the nation, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) wishes to inform all stakeholders of the commencement of formal removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), in accordance with the powers conferred on the agency by the law establishing it, in compliance with Section 7 of PPPRA Act, 2004.
By this announcement, the downstream sub-sector of the petroleum industry is hereby deregulated for PMS. Service providers in the sector are now to procure products and sell same in accordance with the indicative benchmark price to be published forthnightly and posted on the PPPRA website. Petroleum products marketers are to note that no one will be paid subsidy on PMS discharges after 1st January 2012”.
“We strongly condemn the Jonathan presidency for this wicked hike in prices and its decision to inflict unnecessary suffering and punishment on Nigerians.
In anticipation of the introduction of this wicked increases in fuel prices, JAF had in its media briefing on December 21st 2011 declared that Nigerians should begin MASS ACTION effective from Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012.

There goes our lazyness, instead of us all to call for the strenghtening of our anti corruption laws, making sure we all benefit the real intent of this deregulation, as for me, after weighing all options available, i'm convinced deregulation is the best way forward,our labour union are only known when struggling for higher pay or arguing on when to get free this and free that,i,ve never heard our Nigeria Lazy Congress conducting a mass protest to call for a good anti corruption law or to push for a more better agenda, the other day it was mass protest against a road in Lagos that was built on an agreement , while everybody got busy talking about the sweetness of that road, they forgot so soon how the road got there in the first place, and now when asked to pay , everyone got fired up, we should shrugg of this attitude of no love for our country, Nigerians should think about what they can contribute to our nation and not emptying everything we meet on our way!!!, Timber, oil , green vegetations are all going awy due to our lazy way of life, we like to reap , even without sowing,Nigeria as a government has no obligation to subsidise consumption!, but production as it is done world wide.

Absorb! Noise! Just pure noise making. Just another misplacement of priorities. Hopefully, I am not among those masses you are inciting to engage in civil disobedience.
ReplyDeleteWhy should I protest the removal of fuel subsidy? And who exactly am I protesting on their behalf? Am I to go on civil disobedience for my interest, the interest of ordinary Nigerians like me, or for the interest of the very rich and the powerful?? We already have all being screwed by the system. They need my/our help for personal benifits? Won't happen!
It's time Nigerians learn to fight only those fights that can enhance their daily life. Enough of being used like pawns by elites,politicians, the rich and the powerful!
I will be first one to hit the door if any of these hypocrites call for protest against corruption, protest for SNC, and a protest to implement true Federalism!
Wrong fight, do not die for those elites anymore! Let's use that brain that was giving to us free of charge, without subsidy!
Stupid people instead of all of you to start looking for a way out (e.g buying bicycles) you are there protesting.It will not change anything.
