IN the wake of their election as governors-elect for their various states, the politicians who are going to be sworn in today made certain promises to the electorate, particularly during their electioneering campaigns.
Some of those who are taking oath of office for the first time today brought what they consider as new ideas in their mission statements, while in most cases, those on whom the oath of office will be administered for the second time running highlighted how they intend to build on what they had already done.
Looking at the people’s expectations across the states, Sunday Tribune investigation shows that while some of the promises look realistic, others might not be better than mere wish for utopianism. It has also been observed that that nothing has been promised that had not been promised before. The following are some of the promises from the incoming governors.
Kaduna: Patrick Yakowa
The major promise of the Kaduna governor-elect is the provision of amnesty to members of the deadly sect, Boko Haram, as a way of restoring peace to the state. Yakowa will also tackle the major problems of rural development confronting the state, embark on road construction and focus more on education, rural electrification and development as well as youth empowerment.
He also promised to be dedicated to provision of amenities, particularly mentioning the Zaria water project, apart from promising focus on welfare of workers and security of lives and property.
Poor policy implementation is serious worry in Kaduna
What worries many people in this state is the poor implementation of policies by successive governments at all levels in the past. This is the reason why many in tKaduna State are urging the state government under Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa to take a departure from what obtained in the past and come up with people friendly policies which should be implemented to make citizens in the state true beneficiary of democratic government.
Speaking with Sunday Tribune in Kaduna, executive director of Kaduna Human Rights Association (KHRA), Barrister Sadau Garba, noted that in the recent past, policies made by successive administrations in the state were not only poorly implemented but were allegedly manipulated and distorted to deceive the majority and serve as avenue for personal enrichment by selected government officials and their collaborators.
He therefore admonished those who will form the next government in the state to live above board by discharging their constitutional duties in accordance to people’s expectation and the constitution.
“For several decades, growth and economic development were stagnant especially in the North because those privileged to be in position of leadership had turned such offices into private enterprises and found pleasure in accumulating wealth.
“This has in no small measure turned the hand of the clock backward in virtually all the Northern states and has painfully, be the major reason why the educational gap between the region and its counterparts continued to widen.
Specifically, Sadau Garba advised Governor Patrick Yakowa to renew his focus on education which he said will galvanised total development of the state.
“Education is the key in life; therefore, we believe that this vital sector must not be handled with kid gloves. There should be a broad based policy in education. The era of free textbooks and uniform that were hyped in the media should be be revisited and enhanced. Since primary education is a basic right, the state government should endeavour to give the sector priority. All pupils in the state should without discrimination enjoy free tuition fee and examination fees of all kinds should be paid for all secondary school students in the state particularly those in government owned schools. Teachers in all government schools, who are the bedrock of the system, should also without delay enjoy enhanced salary and other emoluments and benefits. They are important and must be valued and appreciated’’ Garba said.
Akwa Ibom: Godswill Akpabio
The PDP governor, said to have achieved a lot in his first term has a mission statement that craves “an Akwa Ibom State with an empowered populace and a private sector-driven economy, acting as a catalyst to Nigeria’s industrial revolution.” The governor has promised to consolidate on legacies and foundations that had been laid in the in the past and implement rural industrialisation of the state, promising value re-orientation, poverty reduction, wealth creation and employment generation.
The people want more
With the performance of the governor in his first term, the people, expectedly will demand for more. They have requested among other things from the governor in the second term adequate security, job creation through industrialisation and empowerment of the youth.
Most of the indigenes of the state, especially the youth are demanding from the governor adequate representation in his government in the area of empowerment, and job placement
Water supply, insecurity are serious concerns in Niger
As Governor Babangida Aliyu is inaugurated for a second term today, majority of people in the state said that for Governor Aliyu to leave his name in gold, he would need to solve the age-long water problem that has been facing major towns in the state.
Another area where the people want the governor to focus attention on is the maintenance of peace and peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic nationalities in the state. Residents bemoaned the bomb explosions in the state that has become a regular occurrence.
In the opinion of President Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State, Reverend Musa Bako, once the state is peaceful; its growth would be accelerated.
Residents of Minna, in particular, want Governor Aliyu to tackle the reconstruction of the township roads in the state capital so that commercial vehicles would be able to ply all parts of the state capital.
As for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) the umbrella body for most industrial unions in the state, the major expectation from the ‘Talba’ administration this second term is the payment of the N18,000 minimum wage.
State Chairman of the union, Idris Ndako, said government would receive the ‘full cooperation of labour once it can pay the minimum wage.’
Only Peace can guarantee development in Plateau - Kwande
While residents in many states of the federation crave for social amenities such as water provision, roads and education, for residents on the Plateau, it is all about peace. For them, there can never be development without peace.
This may be the reason why elder statesman, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, said the only legacy Governor Jang can bequeath to Plateau State is peace. He charged the governor to pursue peace by preaching forgiveness. He said plateau had witnessed lot of upheavals that had retarded its development, saying that if Governor Jang can achieve peaceful co-existence in the state within the next four years, residents of the state will never forget him.
The North Central Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Yakubu Pam also made the same remark. He said, “The issue of security should be addressed squarely and total reconciliation of all the aggrieved parties to the crisis should be ensured. He (Jang) should bring everybody together irrespective of tribe and ethnic background and let his door be opened wide for accessibility”
He further stated that every sector in the state suffered as a result of the crisis and that only an end to the crisis would provide a platform for the development of the state.
On his part, Plateau State Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN), Chief Amos Gizo implored Governor Jang to establish Truth Commission to bring about lasting solution to the crisis in the state, adding that the Commission will guarantee integration and bring about forgiveness. Chief Gizo also want government to accord priority to educational sector saying this becomes necessary in view of the deplorable state of the sector as a result of neglect by the previous administrations.
Mr. Joshua Dachom, a political analyst, on his own, link the crisis in the state to unemployment. He said once youths are engaged it would be difficult for them to be tools in the hand of perpetrators of violence, while imploring the state government to create job opportunity for the youths as a way of minimizing crisis in the state.
The Spokesman Council of Ulama Plateau State, Alhaji Sani Mudi wants the government to guarantee peace for all irrespective of tribes and religious background. He said the government should take advantage of the relative peace in the state to reach out to people and as well initiate the process of peace and total reconciliation.
Imo: Chief Rochas Okorocha
The philanthropist-turned-politician, who is noted for his exploit in children education, has promised the people of Imo State that education of their children would be uppermost in his mind, declaring free education in the state. He was recently quoted as saying, “I will make education in Imo State free so that the poorest of the poor can afford to go to school. My promise to the people of Imo State still stands; the essence of my government will be to bring the people who are down up, and by creating a new middle class in Imo State.”
We will vote Okorocha out, if he fails on campaign promises
The Imo state governor-elect Owelle Rochas Okorocha had during his electioneering campaign promised the people of Imo State that he would make available free primary and secondary education if he elected governor of Imo State.
Apart from this promise on free education, Chief Okorocha equally promised Imo people job opportunity, particularly the youths that had graduated from tertiary institutions walking aimlessly across the state looking for non-existing jobs. These are indeed the tasks ahead for the Okorocha as he is sworn in today.
A civil servant in the state, Mr. Peter Uzodima, explained that since the governor-elect, Okorocha, promised free education during this campaign to his people, he should not hesitate to implement it so as to reduce the burden on parents and guardians. He added, that ‘if he (Okorocha) fails to fulfil these campaign promises, the people of Imo State are politically wise now and they will vote him out of government in 2015 which is just around the corner.
Katsina residents crave for potable water provision, health
Just like Niger, provision of potable water remains one of the biggest concerns of the residents of Katsina Stat. Some of them who spoke with Sunday Tribune said the availability of potable drinking water would reduce the hardship they face, especially in the rural and urban areas of the state.
Other areas, they would want government to concentrate include health. They argued that numerous health centres in the state are in dire need of qualified health workers.
They also enjoined the new administration to make available sport facilities so as to reduce restiveness amongst youths in the state.

While most of the people are confident that the incoming administration would achieve set targets, some advised the government to do away with those they called “unproductive elements” that are only after their selfish interests. According to them, for any government to succeed, all hands must be on deck to ensure the development of the state and its people.
On their part, women have enjoined government to fulfil its promises by appointing them into various political offices as they were ready to offer their contributions for the development of the state.
Even though their expectations are high, they are confident that, the incoming administration would give women the chance to prove their worth.
Borno: Kashim Shettima
Power and security are the main promise of Mr. Shettima. He promised to dialogue with members of Boko Haram and give them amnesty. He said after tackling the Boko Haram problem, the state could then stop the activities of the Operation Flush security apparatus which had been causing anger among the people. He also promised to provide terminus for commercial motorcyclists and taxis as well as address the problems of inadequate houses, poverty, health care, unemployment.
He promised to partner with the Chad Basin Development Authority on how to use the entire land available at the basin for agricultural employment for the youths and also address the issue of power, by reviving the New Marte Power Plant at the same basin.
Boko Haram, water provision await Shettima
The election of the 46 years old Kashim Shettima of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has made Borno, along with Yobe State the two states that have remained under the control of the ANPP since the return of democracy in 1999. Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda and Kashim Imam (twice) and Alhaji Mohammed Goni all of the PDP had all came second to the ANPP candidates in the state at different times.
It is generally believed that provision of potable drinking water, upgrading of health sector through employment of doctors and nurses and education for the largely uneducated residents of the state have always been of great concern to the Katsina State and check by Sunday Tribune showed the clamour of the people have not changed. This is not expected of the new administration of Kashim Shettima since the problems are still starring residents of the state in the face.
Another problem facing the state is the threats of the Boko Haram religious sect. Since July 2009, when the group first appeared when it disrupted the peace of some states in the north, the activities of the group have become more popular in Borno State. They have also claimed responsibilities for the serial killings of government security personnel, moderate Muslim clerics, as well as some politicians and Christian preachers.
This is what many in the state say await the incoming administration of Kashim Shettimma. Speaking on the challenges, a resident of the state, Garba Musa said, “What we really need here are good health care, water, education and security of lives and property. If you go to the market now, you will discover that many of the shops owned by non indigenes have closed due to the insecurity in the state. Our hospitals have closed for years and teachers are being employed without posting and salary for many months. These are the problems in this state and we expect that the new government will address them.”
Kwara: Abdulfatah Ahmed
As he is sworn in today, the Kwara governor-elect has promised to accord special attention to human capital development, tourism and solid mineral development in the state. He had said that he had produce a document that would guide the activities and policies of his administration, which he noted would continue from where the outgoing administration stopped. He promised to pursue a policy that would make primary health care available to communities within 500 metres of their locations, apart from establishment of a general hospital around a cluster of such primary health centres.
He also said his administration was ready to pay the new minimum wage.
Residents begs Abdulfatah to extend development beyond Ilorin
As Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed takes over from Dr. Bukola Saraki today, expectations are very high on Fatah to build on the achievements of Dr Saraki.
For Dr. Ayoade Adesokan, a medical practitioner and former Chairman Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kwara State chapter, the new governor should convert the former site of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) to a general hospital for the usage of the people of the state. He mentioned that the new site of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital which is located outside the state capital was far from the people. He added that the incoming administration of Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed should put that into consideration so that the state can make use of the temporary site of the hospital as state hospital.
He also advised the incoming governor to open up development in the rural areas since much had been done for the state capital, Ilorin, and as such development should be extended to other parts of the state.
Another person who voiced out his words is the chairman of Kwara South Consultative Assembly (KSCA), Mr. Demola Bamidele. He said the incoming governor should continue from where the administration of the outgoing governor stops. He added that Kwara State needs more development despite the fact that the outgoing governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has done a lot for the state adding that the incoming government should concentrate more on human development by providing jobs for the unemployed youths in the state.
Also speaking with Sunday Tribune, the former Chief of Staff Government House, Ilorin, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Olododo advised that the incoming government should focus on generating more income for the state through tourism because, Kwara State has the potentials that could fetch the state huge revenue if properly exploited.
He noted that rural development should also be one of the things that the incoming governor should put into consideration, saying that opening of roads in the rural areas will assist the movement of goods and services in the state.
Lagos: Babatunde Fashola
Mr. Fashola, SAN, is not new in Lagos State; he is one of the re-elected governor in the country. It is the belief of many Nigerians that his first four years were a success. After his second inauguration today, Fashola concentrate on completion of many roads his administration had embarked upon. He has promised on the completion of the on-going mega city project in the state.The state government said it was prepared to give priority attention to the construction of more roads and rehabilitation of existing ones. It is also working on a light rail project which it will aim to conclude.The Fashola-led government also has plans to decongest the metropolitan centre and create new towns. It has listed six communities as pilot areas for the new town project, including; Onigbongbo Village in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Olowo-Ira Village in Kosofe Local Government Area, Agbenaje Village in Mosan-Agbado Local Council Development Area, Shasha/Oguntade Village around Ikeja and Alimosho local government areas, Isheri Village in Kosofe Local Government Area and Ologolo Village in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Enugu desires qualitative and affordable education
Many residents of Enugu State agreed that although many sectors in the state are begging for development, Education deserves the greatest attention. They want the governor to make education qualitative and affordable from the primary schools to the tertiary institutions.
Some who spoke with Sunday Tribune bemoaned the poor condition of the state owned tertiary institutions. They also demanded for reduction in the tuition fees charged by authorities of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
To Madam Ugwueze Igwe, a school teacher, she prayed the governor to implement the N18000 minimum salaries in the state, stressing that its implementation would go a long way in reducing the suffering of teachers and other civil servants employed in the state.
Others who spoke with Sunday Tribune on their expectations want Governor Chime to address the issue of rural roads, adding out that most of the roads in the rural areas have been neglected. They said the governor performed creditably in the construction of roads in the urban areas, particularly in the Enugu metropolis, but they want the governor to give equal attention to rural communities in terms of road constriction, health and housing.
A respondents who simply gave his name as Okechukwu told Sunday Tribune that he would be happy if the ailing industries owned by the state government are revived by the governor. He listed AVOP vegetable oil industry at Nachi and cashew processing factory in the state as some of the industries that need urgent attention.
The respondent also want the governor to run an open door policy by making sure that his next cabinet is made up of tested hands who are ready to inject ideas that would move the state forward. In doing so, merit and not political patronage should be his watch word while choosing his team.

Kano: Rabiu Kwankwaso
Governor Kwankwaso’s priority, according to him, “in my second coming,” will be to explore the possibility of creating massive employment opportunities to gainfully engage idle youths. He said he would embark on the resuscitation of industries in the three industrial estates of Bompai, Sharada and Challawa.
He also promised an Independent Power Project (IPP).
Insecurity still worries Kano residents
AS Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso takes over from Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau today, many people have expressed their expectations from the incoming government and how the new governor can build on the achievements of the outgoing governor.
According to the life patron of Yoruba Community in Kano, Alhaji (Dr) Ganiyu Akanbi Bello, despite the fact that religious violence has greatly reduced in Kano State, there is still need for the coming governor to put premium on security because of the volatile nature of the state.
Alhaji Bello also enjoined the governor-elect to strive and develop and rehabilitate some major roads in the Sabo Gari area of Kano because of the large number of people living in the area. He added that if the incoming government can reconstructed the popular Court Road, Ibadan Road and other roads in Sabo Gari the problems of the residents of the area will be greatly alleviated.
For Chief(Dr) Boniface Ibekwe, the Eze Ndigbo of Kano,the large unemployment rate is the biggest challenge for Dr Kwankwaso. He said the people of the state were expecting incoming administration address this problem because an idle hand is the devil workshop.
Dr. Ibekwe also noted that the expectations of the teeming masses are very high, having know that the governor-elect was a former minister of defence, hence the masses expect from his government adequate security of live and property.
The Eze Ndigbo also disclosed that the people of the state especially the non-indigenes supported the issue of Shari’a legal system, but quickly added that it should be strictly applied to Muslims.
Alhaji Adesokan Suara, president general of Yoruba Community in Kano, noted that the masses in Kano State would be happy to sleep with their two eyes closed, hence he expects the incoming governor to focus on security.
He said, ‘Until recently, the security in the state was nothing to write home about. When he comes in, we hope he would tackle the security aspect and all the indigenes and non-indigenes would have a peace of mind.
Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman of Christians Association of Nigeria,(CAN) Kano state branch, Bishop Ransome Bello, noted that the incoming government should ensure a level playing field for all religion to express their religion doctrines.
Oyo: Senator Abiola Ajimobi
In his mission statement, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftain highlighted the areas in which he wished to better the lot of the people of the state which had been under the government of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the past eight years. These include; infrastructure, education, agriculture and food security, health care delivery, poverty alleviation, social welfare and environment, sports and media welfare.
Under infrastructure, Ajimobi promised electricity that would result from a combination of “coal-fired/hydro turbine and solar energy generation.”
He said portable water scheme, including surface and underground sources and natural spring combined with mini water works, would be provided, adding that good road network, which would ease congestion as well as evolution of road maintenance strategy would be the hallmark of his administration.
The incoming governor also told the people of Oyo State that he would emphasise on science and technology development and middle level manpower skill development in education, apart from his promise to establish Oyo State University.
He also promised the revival of agriculture “for food security and employment generation; boosting of agriculture cooperatives and local fabrication for agro-allied industrialisation.”
In the health sector, he said the people should expect a review of conditions of service for doctors and other health workers, while promising replication of Ajimobi Vocational Training Center in the 33 local government areas of the state for poverty alleviation, among other mouth-watering incentives promised the people.
Oyo residents crave for a modern Ibadan city
For many residents of Oyo State, the outgoing administration of Adebayo Alao Akala has done remarkably well in terms of developing every part of Oyo State, especially, Ibadan, the capital. Many are quick to point at giant strides the governor made in terms of road construction and others. One project that is being hailed is the construction of a massive LAUTECH Hospital in Ogbomoso.
However, many people in the state feel that despite the much done by Alao-Akala lot still need to be done. According to Dr. Demola Alo, Ibadan, the state capital is in dire need of modernisation that befits its status. He said, ‘’When you look at Ibadan today, you will know that much still need to be done. I believe Ibadan by now should be one of the most developed cities in Nigeria, unfortunately what you see today is a kind chaotic and unplanned development whereby building are springing up in every nook and cranny of the city.
Dr. Alo listed urban development, job creation and provision of qualitative education as areas where the new administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi should concentrate on.
Also speaking, a civil servant Mrs. Gloria Adebayo, bemoaned the level of decay in the education system in Oyo State. She said that public primary schools in Oyo State have almost become a place for the children of the poor. ‘’Apart from the few public secondary schools that are owned by the missionaries, the rest are nothing to write home about. I believe this are the challenges Senator Ajimobi should give priorities to.
He must restore the glory of the public schools so that parents would be confident of taking their wards to the schools.’’
Also speaking, Seun Atere, a student of the Polytechnic of Ibadan, said the tuition fees being paid in the Oyo State-owned tertiary institution are beyond what their parents could afford. She urged the new governor to reduce the fees.
Education, health are priorities in Kebbi
In health sector, the people are clamouring for more manpower and capable hands to manage the newly established hospitals introduced by the Dakingari’s administration. They said only if qualified medical doctors and nurses are employed by the state government that the hospitals will serve the needs of the people of the state.
Others who spoke with Sunday Tribune also spoke about the need to wants more human faces in the state administration of Governor Seidu Dakingari so as to better the lots of individuals and organizations that have honestly and sincerely contributed positively to the growth and development of the state in the recent years past. They added that the governor should be forthright in dealing with his political appointees in the state so that corrupt public officers are reprimanded and dealth with to serve as deterrence for others.
Ogun: Senator Ibikunle Amosun
In Ogun State where Amosun, also an ACN chieftain, will be sworn in this morning, the people have been promised “provision of qualitative and affordable education, quality health care delivery system, increased agricultural production and sustainable rural development” as well as “provision of affordable housing, development of infrastructure and industrialisation.”
Besides, the people would be expecting a quick realisation of the 10,000 jobs he promised within his first 100 days in office. Amosun, who said the people of the state could hold him by his words, had also promised to implement free education and free health care programmes, particularly for children between the ages of one and five years, pregnant women and people aged 65 years and above.
On agriculture, the governor-elect promised to set N1 billion for distribution to farmers in the state, as a means of restructuring the sector. He promised that all farm settlements and rubber plantations would be revived. Amosun also promised that the party would restructure the agricultural sector in the state by setting aside N1 billion for distribution to farmers.
The incoming government has also promised to re-introduce sanitary inspectors in the system so as to improve environmental health of the people of Ogun State.
Amosun, who pledged to facilitate the development of low-cost housing “on a large scale, through the provision of housing along income level,” said his administration would act as guarantor for civil servants to enable them to obtain loans/mortgages to purchase the house “with long term repayment scheme,” adding that his government would infrastructure and recreational parks in all existing housing estates.He also promised waster, aggressive rural electrification and general upgrading of public utilities and provision of a “functional” free trade zone.
Ogun people want a more befitting state capital
The general feeling among the populace of Ogun State, apart from the deplorable state of road in the state capital, Abeokuta, is that the sanitation of the town be taken more seriously.
Similarly, the people would want the incoming government to bring to reality some laudable projects promised by the last administration, such as the free trade zone.
Benue: Gabriel Suswam
Governor Suswam plans to continue to re-invigorate the agricultural sector, apart from his commitment to completing a 100,000 litres water treatment plant, among other ongoing projects. He has identified four cardinal areas of governance; agriculture, infrastructure and environment; commerce, industry and investment; and social development and services as his major areas of concern, promising prudent management of resources to achieve this.
Benue residents want government to concentrate on agriculture
Road construction, rural electrification and water provision are some of the basic concerns of many resident of Benue State who spoke with Sunday Tribune. A resident of Makurdi who spoke with Sunday Tribune said it is important for the governor to complete some roads in the state such as the Anyim-Abede- Amaafu-Abeji road; Orokom –Owukpa-Okpoga- Utonko road, Ugbokola-Otukpo Orokam road, Adikpo-Ikyogen- Jato Aka road, Vandekyia- Koti Yough road, Gboko-Mkar- Amaladu road, Zaki Biam-Afia-Gbeji road, Otukpo-Utonkon-Igumale road, Ge Ikyobo-Agbeede-Amua-Ashagba expressway and others so as to open up the rural areas.
Rural electrification which the state government embarked on to enhance the economy of the rural dwellers when he assumed power has to continue especially when the governor told the people that when voted back to office, he would introduce measures that would bring about wealth creation for the Benue people. The people cannot improve on their wellbeing if there is no adequate power base in the state that can drive economic activities and that is also accountable for why the state is back ward economically.
Others said there is the need for the Suswam administration to complete the ongoing water projects in the state. They argued that the projects are fundamental to the economic development and the people will score high if the projects are completed and commissioned within the shortest period of time.
Mr. Tsar Alu, a farmer also added that the Gabriel Suswam government to see to it that the tomatoes plant in Wannune, fertilizer and cassava plants in Makurdi, are reactivated and put into use since they have the capacity to increase food production and reduce unemployment in the state. He says, ‘’There is high unemployment in this state just like in other parts of the country but the government of Suswam has to now make deliberate efforts to bring down the ugly trend that has triggered the problem’,’ Tsar said. He said that if appropriate steps are taken Benue State has the potentials to feed the nation if appropriate steps are taken.
Bauch: Mallam Isa Yuguda
In his bid to ensure that permanent peace returns to Bauchi State, Governor Yuguda promised to implement the report on the crises in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas of the state. He will be expected to keep this promise and those on infrastructural and health care provision, among others.
Rivers: Honourable Rotimi Amaechi
Governor Amaechi promised “greater development” in the state and further “improvement in the lives of Rivers people.” He also promised to run “an all-inclusive government and not a government of exclusion.”
Zamfara: Abdul-Aziz Yari
For Governor-elect Yari, in the next four years, the people of Zamfara State would have been better educated and their poverty status reduced to the barest minimum possible, with urgent steps taken to address the lapses in the education sector. He also promised to concentrate on the provision of infrastructure, while assuring that an environment that will encourage private business practice and skill acquisition centres will be made available.
Yobe: Ibrahim Geidam
As he takes oath of office today, what will be on Geidam’s mind mostly is how to fulfill the promise of infrastructural facilities and increased living standards for residents of Yobe State. He promised that the challenges of poverty, unemployment and desertification in the state would be addressed squarely, while also assuring on good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy.
Delta: Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan
This second term elected governor is believed to have done well. Now, he has said that he would spend the next four years to “better the lot of the people and make the state a better place than I met it.”
Having laid the foundation, according to him, Uduaghan said he was ready to boost the state infrastructure and ensure the development new ones, enhance its agricultural programme, health care, education and create enabling environment for more investors.
He promised a better Delta State that would be the pride of others states, adding that he would formulate policies that would ensure the empowerment of the youth, saying, “this government is about the youth. The biggest challenge is youth employment. Government will formulate more programmes to engage the youth.”
