The National Association of Nigerian Students and Oodua Peoples Congress have demanded a public apology from Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, for saying that the 10 corps members killed in post-election violence in some northern states were destined to die.

NANS said in a statement jointly signed by its President, Mr. Bassey Etuk, and Secretary, Mr. Jossey Ekpe, that the NYSC members were not destined to be killed by an irate mob.

It therefore gave Yuguda a 72-hour ultimatum to make a public apology over his statement or risk being categorised as an ‘enemy of students‘ and barred from entering any Nigerian university.

The President and Founder, OPC, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, stated at a news conference in Lagos on Thursday that it was worried at the position taken by the governor that the killings should be accepted as an act of destiny.

“Governor Isa Yuguda’s statement is insulting and provocative. He must tender an unreserved apology to Nigerian youths, Nigerian students, Southerners and the entire country for that heartless statement,” Fasehun said.
