The rallies, which are being coordinated by civil society groups, will hold in Lagos, Abuja, Umuahia and Asaba simultaneously, according to postings on Twitter and Facebook today.
The rally for Umuahia was originally scheduled for September 21 but was shifted to October 5. It will proceed from Okpara Square to Government House, Umuahia.
The rallies are also in protest of the state government‘s handling of the rape of an unidentified young woman by five men, suspected to be students of Abia State University, Uturu, Abia State.

A widely respected national daily and this site reported that some ABSU students had said the rape took place in an off-campus hostel and was widely reported among students.
Besides, the Minister for Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, also said on Thursday that one of the rapists had been ‘positively identified‘. He also said the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (retd.), had stepped into the matter and would ensure justice for the victim.
