The embattled council boss whose whereabouts was still unknown had suffered from one attack to another since his assumption of office. Recently, he was beaten to a state of coma on the day of the postponed National Assembly election by irate youths who suspected foul play. He was taken to a hospital where he was treated and later discharged.
Reports said he was interacting with some guests in his palour when the gun wielding youths stormed his premises in two vehicles with tinted glasses.
The kidnappers who could not identify him were said to have enquired among the guests who was the chairman of Aboh Mbaise. Onwunali was said to have quickly identified himself unsuspecting of any evil.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Linus Nwaiwu, a deputy superintendent of police said the command was already on the trail of the hoodlums assuring that the police were working relentlessly to rescue the kidnapped council boss.
The gunmen who commandeered him to enter their cars reportedly released several gunshots in to the air to clear the way for their exit. His guests and the villagers were said to have scampered for safety.
As at yesterday, according to a source, no ransom had been placed on his head by his captors, as the family had not established contact with them.
