Five die as Jos boils again

After a short respite, Jos, the Plateau State capital, erupted again in a bloody clash, leaving five dead.

The fresh clash occurred in Angwan Rukuba district of the state capital when a group of youths clashed over the alleged killing of a carpenter, Dahira Musa.

The carpenter was allegedly lured to his death by unknown persons on Monday and buried behind a poultry farm in Anwa Rukuba.

Youths from nearby Nassarawa Gwon district reportedly mobilised and confronted youths in Anwa Rukuba, leading to five deaths while 12 were injured.

The spokesman for the Special task Force in Jos, Capt. Charles Ekeocha, confirmed the incident, saying the military had moved in to quell further violence.

Jos has been wracked by intermittent violence since a disputed local government election in November 2008.

The violence has claimed hundreds of lives and many properties.
