The Igbo leader made the call when the Igbo students and alumni congress, Delta State University, Abraka chapter, visited him in Warri.
The former President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Delta Central and South Zone, explained that being very ambitious people and owing to the growing unemployment the Igbo people were now found in all parts of the world.
Chukwu, who said Igbo People were subjected to all forms of harassment in the country, described the “hostility of the hosts” as unwarranted, and called on the government to quickly put an end to the development.
He said, “One major challenge faced by the Diaspora Igbo is the hostility of their hosts. While in some areas such as Lagos, the relationship between the Igbo traders and the indigenous people is relatively cordial, in most parts of the country it is not like that.
“In the northern part of Nigeria, Igbo people are frequently attacked by the youths in those communities occasioned either by religious extremism or illegal levies on trades.
“Over the years, thousands of Igbo traders or businessmen have lost their lives and businesses in the hands of their hosts. This is not acceptable.”
Chukwu advised the Igbo students in higher institutions of learning in Delta State to avoid any act capable of tarnishing the good reputation of the Igbo.
He expressed delight that the Ohanaeze in Delta Central and South senatorial districts were still strongly united, noting that the Igbo students in Delsu have also organised themselves in a manner similar to other Igbos.
In his lecture on ‘Igbo in Diaspora, yesterday and Today,’ Chukwu, who is also the Onyiesi Ndigbo in the District, noted that Igbo people had made impact everywhere they settle and advised the students to emulate their elders.
The President of the student body, Mr. Fidelis Chikelu, had earlier eulogised the virtues of the Igbo people.
He added that they decided to visit the Igbo leader to seek ways to elevate the Igbo ethnic nationality in the country.

I was particularly happy that you guys made it to Jonathan to complain of the mirade of problems confronting the Igbo Nation in Nigeria, complete alienation in the Service, EFCC, NDLEA, Customs and SSS. We also need to encourage our people living in these hostile states to begin to relocate down South. Businesses can thrive in Lagos, Benin, Yenegoa, P.H. and the many towns and cities of the South. Enough is enough!
ReplyDeleteI think the lamentation is over due. An Igbo person is entitled to her/his rights no matter the state of origin. I am not Igbo but have seen some of the injustices perpetrated against them. Ndigbo should stop begging any tribe not to kill Igbos in their midst rather Ndigbo should take the war to that group without hesitation. No more preaching, we all bleed. No more begging
