Strike suspended in Imo, State govt commends labour leadership

OWERRI- Imo State Government has extolled the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, for suspending the eight-day-old industrial action over the non-implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage.

Chief of Staff, Government House, Owerri, Prince Eze Madumere, who made government’s position known at a press briefing, also described the decision of labour as “a path of honour and progress.”

He said: “Government believes that within two weeks of the current cease fire, the joint technical committee drawn from labour unions and the government would have found a mutual progressive ground for both workers and the entire people of Imo State.”

Reiterating Governor Rochas Okorocha’s commitment to workers’ welfare, the Chief of Staff also observed that what was paramount was the overall interest of the citizenry.

It will be recalled that labour suspended the industrial action and gave a two-week grace within which government would have resolved all the issues or risk another bout of indefinite strike.
