He described as “insulting and unpardonable”, a statement by Gowon that his happiness was that Ojukwu died a Nigerian, not a Biafran, and the one by Obasanjo that he regretted that the deceased did not apologise for the Nigerian/Biafran war.
Ibegbu, who is also the Leader of the Movement for Equity and Justice in Nigeria, told our correspondent on Thursday that Gowon should rather be the one to apologise to Nigerians for waging “an unjust” war against the Easterners.
He said, “In what way is Gowon more Nigerian than Ojukwu? Has Gowon forgotten his history books and how Igbo forebears fought to create Nigeria?
“Does Gowon think that by collaborating with the British, Russian, and Arab opportunists to wage a war against the old Eastern region, he is now more Nigerian than those that founded Nigeria in the first place?”
“If he (Ojukwu) was not more Nigerian than Gowon, he would not have told Easterners to go back to the North after the May 1966 massacre, a situation he regretted till his death,” Ibegbu said.
He added, “Ojukwu was a Nigerian to the core and fought to prevent injustice in Nigeria. Gowon and his ilk only pretended to love Nigeria just for what they wanted to benefit from Nigeria. Why did he and his ilk want to pull out of Nigeria after the July 1966 coup until their British masters and slavish federal permanent secretary then advised them against it?”
He expressed disappointment with Obasanjo, saying, “It is a pity that he (Obasanjo) is still deluded to think Ojukwu would apologise to a decadent nation that waged an unjustified war against the old Eastern region.”
He said, “What the Igbo and other Easterners expect from Obasanjo and Gowon is unreserved apology and not insults, else the blood of victims of the unjustified war would continue to hunt them, their children and generation unborn.”
He, however, thanked John Shagaya for admitting that Nigeria fought against Biafra unjustifiably.
“We expect more of those confessions,” Ibegbu said.
Meanwhile, Ibeagbu said on Thursday that the group would ensure that the burial of Odumegwu-Ojukwu on February 2, 2012 went smoothly.
Ibegbu told our correspondent that barring any change in the burial date, the group would accord the late Odumegwu Ojukwu the honour befitting a political leader. (Credit: Punch)

Well, all said but Ojukwu was the national leader we never had. Imagine the greatness Nigeria will be at if Ojukwu was 9ja president instead of Gowon who lacked the foresight to manage the wealth we had to put us on the industrial world map then. He ought to be ashamed. The northern violence against igbos then which he lacked the ability to control is still ravaging his jos and mind u,not only igbos are victims. Ojukwu stood clearly against it. Ojukwu's actions is not only for the igbos but for all of us. Today the north still bleeds with blood of people he stood for. Pls which hausa state is spared of ethnic violence n killings? shame on u all. Perhaps G.Orka would have ended it. Shame on u i say again. As for Obj, I am just speechless cos the space here is not enough. RIP Ikemba.

Today,it is a wicked paradox that Gowon's Middle -belt people are now at the receiving end from their Hausa/ Fulani masters.That is classical case of Divine Justice. Nemesis will follow Gowon,his posterity and people.By the year 2015,I wonder were Gowon and his people will be?By then,Nigerians will be going their separate ways.I am not a prophet.But by then we people of the Lower Niger Region will rally round and say enough with Gowon's one Nigeria.The Edos,Efiks,Ibibios,Ibos.Ijaws, Itsekiris ,Uhrobos and the Ogonis have nothing in common with the fucking notherners except that we were colonized by the fucking British.
ojukwu entered midwest in 1967 without provocation how do you think we midwesterners feel about this? oh,we dont deserv apology, we were just midwesterners? what about the northern politicians and top military officers killed in the first coup? what about the southwestern politicians and military officers including some from midwest? the coup was lead by ibo speaking young officers. no south eastern politician or military top brass was killed.

The International Criminal
Court at the Hague can only handle such cases pertaining to Africa if it occurred after 2002 - a double standard for the African victims indeed.
But Chief Obasanjo, Theophilus Danjuma and the former
Commander of the STF in the Niger Delta, Alhaji Harkin Sarki Bello might not evade justice for Odi genocide. They will surely answer soon for their crime against our people.
