He also berated Obasanjo for “attempting to re-enact the disservice he did to Imo State in 2007” during his Thursday, last week’s visit to the state on a mission to campaign for the re-election of Ohakim on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While describing it as an irony of deceit, Okorocha wondered how Obasanjo, whose home state is controlled by the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), could come to Imo State to advocate for a PDP government.
He added: “It was laughable learning that Obasanjo was trying to convince Imo people that free education is impossible while his Governor, Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, has been offering free education. He should also know that right next to Ogun in Ibadan, Oyo State, Rochas Foundation has over 1,000 pupils in its free education programme.”
Okorocha, who spoke in his country-home at Ogboko, Ideato South Local Government Area, alleged that the former president, who was accompanied to the state by Chief Ojo Maduekwe and Dr. Ahmadu Ali, the former national chairman of the PDP, had, after their mission in Owerri, “fabricated a false report to the National Security Adviser (NSA) that he incited Imo people to pelt their convoy with sachet water”.
He added that Obasanjo’s anger was that he never expected a scenario where the venue of the PDP grand rally could be virtually empty, while APGA recorded a mammoth crowd at its Rescue Rally.
The APGA standard bearer further explained that after the Ohakim-led government disrupted his campaign by chasing them away from their original venue and frustrated subsequent efforts to hold the event at the old stadium and Township Primary School, they resorted to using the premises of his Rochas Foundation Plaza, located close to Government House, but unfortunately, the surge of the APGA supporters created a traffic gridlock, which incidentally affected the movement of Ohakim and his guests.
While expressing delight that power was gradually returning to the people of the state, Okorocha urged the NSA, General Andrew Azazi (rtd) to jettison whatever report given to him by Obasanjo and avoid making himself a willing tool to some self-serving politicians in the ruling PDP, while carrying out his assignment.
Okorocha, who absolved President Goodluck Jonathan from the complicity, further posited that the President could not have supported any attack on APGA that has virtually taken over his presidential campaign in Imo State and the South-East at large, adding that Ohakim and the PDP in the state have no capacity to deliver Jonathan the people’s votes, having squandered the goodwill of the party in the state.
